Georgette Cecile Demars, 88, formerly of Spofford Street in Claremont died Wednesday evening, May 11, 2011 at the Cedar Hill Health Care Center in Windsor, VT surrounded by her family. She was a native and life long resident of Claremont born on April 27, 1923 the daughter of Didace Joseph and Amanda (Dufresne) Poisson. She was a 1941 graduate of St. Mary High School. Georgette worked at Valley Regional Hospital for 17 years and retired in 1981 as a receptionist in the x-ray department and she had also served as a ballot clerk in Claremont for several years. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Ladies Union Aid Society, a communicant of St. Mary Church and the St. Denis Church of Hanover. Georgette loved reading, cooking, playing cards and trips to the seacoast area. Most importantly, she loved her family and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She is the widow of Stanley Nelson Demars whom she married on November 10, 1943 and he died on July 13, 2006. The family includes; two sons, Robert N. Demars and his wife, Luella of Cornish and John S. Demars and his wife, Jeanne of Claremont; three daughters, Patricia A. Sackevich and her husband, Walter of Poinciana, FL, Marie A. Spencer of Georges Mills, NH and Kathryn A. Purmort and her husband, Bradley of Newport; 11 grandchildren several great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers, Norman G. Poisson who died on May 15, 1967 and Gerard L. Poisson who died on February 21, 1979, also by two sisters at birth. Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Tuesday evening from 5 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated on Wednesday morning, May 18th at Eleven O’clock in St. Mary’s Church with Rev. Father Shawn M. Therrien, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. The family suggests that donations may be made in her memory to the St. Mary Church, 32 Pearl Street, Claremont, NH 03743 or St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942 or to the charity of ones choice. |
