Geraldine S. Bateman, 94, of Claremont, died Monday, March 28th at the home of her daughter in Charlestown, NH. She was born April 17, 1916 in Windsor, VT, the daughter of Dr. Samuel and Winnie McKewen. She had resided in Springfield, MA, Windsor, VT, Deltona, FL and Claremont, NH. She attended Windsor High School and received an Associate’s Degree from Colby Junior College. Geraldine had a contralto voice and sang in choirs and with chorus groups and was the first female to sing a solo with the Men’s Dartmouth Glee Club. She was District President of the Windsor Area Women’s Club, an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed summers at the family cottage on Lake Sunapee. She was the widow John R. Bateman whom she married on June 21, 1941 and he died December 15, 1981. Members of the surviving family include one son, John R. Bateman, Jr. and his wife, Eileen of Canaan, NH; one daughter, Judith M. Murray and her husband, John of Charlestown, NH; six grandchildren, Benjamin J. Murray, Matthew E. Murray, Melissa C. Lawson, Elizabeth B. Lutz, Laurie Lee and Jeffrey J. Bateman; and fifteen great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Charlestown Memorial Chapel, Main St., Charlestown on Thursday March 31, 2011 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church, Sullivan St., Claremont, NH with Pastor Shinhyung Ahn, officiating. Interment will follow in Mt.
