Gloria Jean Simms, 62, of Second Street in Claremont died peacefully Sunday morning, August 7, 2011 at her home surrounded by her family after a long battle with cancer.

She was born in Exeter, NH on January 5, 1949, the daughter of Leonard Albert and Marilyn Ada (Beverly) Fisher and resided in Newport and Claremont most of her life.

Gloria graduated from Newport High School in the Class of 1967 and dedicated her life to raising her four children.

She was an avid gardener, enjoyed cooking, crafts and most of all loved spending time with her family. 

The family includes her husband, Robert C. Simms Jr. whom she married on June 20, 1967; four children, Tammy Simms of Charlestown, NH, Wendy Leahy of Unity, NH, Christine Scranton and Robert Simms III both of Claremont, NH; seven grandchildren, Rebecca Scranton, Taylee Scranton, Ty Scranton, Dalton Hutchinson, Kaleb Hutchinson, Camron Simms and Lexi Simms; one sister, Cindy Brooks of Sullivan, NH; one brother, Steven Fisher of Sullivan, NH and her father Leonard Fisher of Colrain, MA.

Friends and family may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street, Claremont, NH on Saturday, August 13th from 1 to 3 PM.

Graveside funeral services will follow at the West Claremont Burying Ground on Old Church Road in Claremont.
