Harry William Moore, 95, of Barton Street, Claremont, NH, died Saturday
afternoon, July 2, 2011 at his home. Harry graduated from Fitchburg Teachers College in Fitchburg, MA in 1939, received his Masters Degree from Columbia University in New York in 1945 and received several grants for study from the National Science Foundation. He taught at the Stevens School for Boys for one year in Swansea, MA; two years in Ludlow, VT; nineteen years at Stevens High School in Claremont; three years in Hanover, NH and fifteen years at Clarkstown School District in West Nyack, NY and retired in 1981. He was a very active member of the United Methodist Church of Claremont where he was Sunday School Superintendent, chairman of the Men’s Club and worked many church suppers. He was a Past Master of Hiram Lodge #9 of Free & Accepted Masons receiving his 50 year pin in 2005; Past High Priest of Webb Chapter #6; Past member of Columbian Council #2 Royal & Select Masters; Past member of Sullivan-Hugh Da Payens Commandry #6 Knights Templar and Past Dad Advisor of Local Demolay 1960 thru 1962. He worked at Claremont’s Ward 2, first as a ballot clerk and then as assistant moderator.
Mr. Moore enjoyed people and was known for his sense of humor and would enjoy the comments he would get from wearing his “Old Geezer” cap. He and his wife of 69 years would meet friends most every morning at McDonald’s. The surviving family includes his wife, Grace Ruth (Goodale) Moore of Claremont, whom he married on October 4, 1941 in Gardner, MA; one son, Brian W. Moore of Fitchburg, MA; one daughter, Pamela Goodell of Richmond, NH; two granddaughters, Jennifer Moore and Kimberly Touya; one grandson, Gregory Moore; three great-granddaughters, Liefe Temple, Haydee Temple and Gianna Touya. Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Wednesday morning, July 6th from 9 to 10 AM. The Hiram Masonic Lodge #9 will conduct their service at 10 AM in the funeral home. A Funeral Service will follow with Rev. Patricia Wells, Pastor of the United Methodist Church and Rev. Priscilla Hull, co-officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Oakdale Cemetery in Oakdale, MA. The family suggest that donations may be made in his memory to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104. |
