Helena Evelyn McMann, 92, formerly of Severance Street, died Saturday Morning May 7, 2011 at Valley Regional Hospital. She was born in Island Falls, ME on July 13, 1918 the daughter of Joseph H. and Kate (Burgoyne) Pelkey and had resided in Claremont since 1941. She was a graduate of Island Falls, ME High School. She was a communicant of St Mary’s Church, a member of Court Virgil H. Barber #892 Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the St Anne Society and the Claremont Senior Center. Helena worked as a clerk for eight years at M.H. Fishman’s Department Store; also for Bob Cote’s Catering Service as a waitress and in the kitchen and as a volunteer at the Claremont Senior Center in the kitchen for many years. She was the widow of Donald F. McMann whom she married on October 15, 1939 and he died October 31, 1997. The surviving family includes one son, Barry McMann of Claremont; two nieces, Dawn Meister of Hampton, CT and Janice Cremo of Wallingford, CT and one nephew, Leonal “Stubby” Baker of Yalesville, CT. She was pre-deceased by two brothers, Maynard Pelkey and Raleigh Pelkey; one sister, Dorothy Baker and her son, Brian McMann. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday morning May 10th at 11AM in St Mary’s Church with Rev. Father Shawn M. Therrien, Pastor officiating. Interment will follow in St Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street, from 9:30 to 10:30 Tuesday Morning prior to the Mass. The family suggests that donations may be made in her memory to St. Vincent DePaul Society, 32 Pearl Street or the Claremont Senior Center, 5 Acer Road, both of Claremont, NH 03743. |
