Hildegard
D. "Dotty" Smith, 90, of Croydon, NH passed away peacefully Wednesday
July 20th, 2011 at The Clough Center, New London, NH.
Dotty was born June 29th, 1921 in Hamburg Germany. She worked for the
railroad system early on in life, and lived through war torn Germany,
until she met her future husband Albert "Bert" Smith, serving in the
U.S. Army. The two were married on March 9th, 1957. Later that year
they moved to the U.S. and Dotty became a U.S. Citizen in 1958.
A devoted wife and mother, she lived in numerous locations across the
country until Bert's retirement from the military in 1974, when they
settled at "Journey's End" in Croydon. Dotty worked in the Dietary
Department at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital until her retirement in
1983. Her hobbies included reading, bird watching and travelling,
especially trips to Foxwoods for Bingo! She was well known for her
beautiful blue eyes and beaming smile right up to the beginning of her
final journey.
She was predeceased by her husband in September 2009. Survivors include
her three sons, John Clark and his wife Gae of Crane, MO., William Smith
of Croydon, NH and Robert Smith of Southbury, CT.; five grandchildren
and two great grand-children.
Arrangements are with
the Stringer Funeral Home and Crematorium, 146 Broad St., Claremont,
NH. Burial will be held privately in the East Village Cemetery on Cash
St. in Croydon with Pastor Donna Leslie officiating. Remembrances in
honor of Dotty may be made to The Clough Center, 273 County Rd., New
London, NH 03257.
