Irene E. Harrington, 93, of Claremont, NH died Sunday morning, February 6, 2011, at Valley Regional Hospital.

She was born on September 1, 1917, in Sunapee, NH the daughter of George and Katherine (Evans) Plummer and was raised by Hazel and Leighton Russell.

Irene graduated from Sunapee High School in 1935 and earned her degree in nursing from Worcester City Hospital of Nursing in 1938.  She did private duty, industrial nursing and completed post graduate work at Providence Lying-in Hospital in Rhode Island in 1940.

Irene worked for Worcester City Hospital for eight years and for Claremont General Hospital for twenty eight years both as general duties and later as supervisor in obstetrics. She worked at the Sullivan County Nursing Home for nine years and retired in 1983.

She was a resident of Claremont for over 40 years and moved to Ringold, VA in November of 1989 and then returned to Claremont.

Irene married her husband Frederick Harrington in Sunapee on September 17, 1949 and he died on June 20, 1974.

The family includes one son, Frederick Harrington of Claremont; one daughter, Kathleen A. Smith of Ringold, VA; two granddaughters, Nancy Perry and her companion Terry St. Aubin and Allison Lemiuex and her husband Leon; four grandsons, Jason Lavertue and his wife Tracie; Eric Smith and his wife Melissa, Mike Hardy and his wife Christine; two great granddaughters, Jasmine Hardy and Shawna Smith; two great grandsons, Ben Smith and Triston Smith also nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by five sisters, Pansy Penniman, Lucia Drew, Georgia Davis, Cleora Chapman and Menta Shaw; one brother Robert Buckley.

Funeral services will be held at 11am on Thursday morning, February 10th,  at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street, Claremont with Pastor David Crosby of the First Baptist Church officiating.

 Graveside committal services for Irene E. Harrington, 93, of Claremont, NH who died Sunday morning, February 6, 2011, will be held Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 1pm in Mountain View Cemetery  with Scott Kearns of the First Baptist Church officiating.
