Joseph Ulen Gibson, 81, of Fenderson Circle in Charlestown, NH died Friday, September 30, 2011 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in White River Junction, VT. He was born in Plainfield, NH on November 10, 1929 the son of Robert and Hallie (Stickney) Gibson. He graduated from Windsor High School in 1947 and joined the Air Force where he served for seven years, spending time in North Africa and the Azores until 1954. After leaving the service he worked at the Vermont State Prison in Windsor, VT. In 1955 he joined the N.H. State Police and was a trooper for twelve years attending several schools. While serving with the NH State Police, he was asked to go to Charlestown to start a police department which he formed and worked with until he retired from after eight years. Joe was then Transportation Manager for the Fall Mountain School District for several years and then was the Transportation Manager for the Claremont School District after which, he was a courier for the Connecticut River Bank in Charlestown. Joe belonged to the N.H. Chiefs of Police, was an active member of the Lions Association for several years, also a member of the Faithful Lodge #12 F. & A.M. and the Senior Center both of Charlestown. Joe enjoyed music and singing and formed the musical group of Silvertones at the Charlestown Senior Center. He attended the Charlestown Congregational Church. Joe was an avid reader of World War II material and was very interested in airplanes and constructed many model airplanes. He married Beverly Jean Gates of Claremont, NH on November 5, 1955 in Claremont and on November 7, 2010 they celebrated their 55th anniversary renewal of their marriage vows at the Charlestown Congregational Church. The surviving family includes his wife, Beverly of Charlestown; two sons, Gary Steven Gibson and his wife, Judy (Stearns) Gibson of Charlestown and Mark Joseph Gibson of Claremont; eight grandchildren; one great-grand-daughter; one sister, Priscilla Springer of Unity and nieces nephews and cousins. He will be missed by all. He was pre-deceased by a daughter, Joy Lynn Deihim-Panah on July 5, 2005; four brothers, Paul Gibson, Howard “Hoot” Gibson, Elmer “Buzz” Gibson and a twin brother John Gibson and two sisters, Hazel Amidon and Betty Davis. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011 at Two O’clock in the Charlestown Congregational Church, with Rev. Susan Grant Rosen, Pastor officiating. A reception will follow the services in the Pine Room of the Church. Interment will be Sunday at the Plainfield Cemetery on Rte. 12A at Two O’clock.
