Lourene May Burrows, 81, of Schmitt Street in Claremont, died Tuesday evening, February 14, 2011 at Valley Regional Hospital.

She was born on August 10, 1929 in Panama Canal, Panama the American Zone, the daughter of Melba Baker and James Lyons and raised by her maternal grandparents Arthur and Annie Baker.  At the age of 7 she arrived at Ellis Island and made her home in Newfane, VT before moving to Northfield, MA. 

After graduating high school she was employed by Holstein Friesian Association and was responsible for drawing identification markings on paper cows for owners when they registered their cattle.

She married Bryant B. Burrows, Jr. on March 29, 1953 and he died on January 9, 2007.

Lourene was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Claremont serving the church as a Sunday school teacher, a vacation Bible study teacher and led many ladies Bible study groups.

She was also a noon aide and a teacher’s aide at North Street and West Terrace Elementary Schools.

She had a strong love of family and enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren so the parents could go to work. She enjoyed driving along the coast and making frequent stops at lighthouses. 

The family includes two daughters, Wanda Jeanne Magoon and her husband, Iver of Claremont and Paula Jeanne Burrows of Weare; three sons, Kenneth Gene Burrows, Tracy Gene Burrows and his wife, Cathy all of Claremont and Gary Gene Burrows of Baltimore, MD; ten grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Joe Fuller of Tacoma, WA and Shawn Fuller of Flower Mound, TX; one sister, Patricia Fuller of Plant City, FL; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Saturday February 19th from 12 noon to 2 PM.

Funeral Services will be held follow at Two O’clock at the Funeral Home with Pastor Stephen Cook of the Calvary Baptist Church in Claremont, officiating.
