Nell Bateman, 105, formerly of Clay Hill Road in Claremont died, Sunday evening, November 13, 2011 at the Woodlawn Nursing Home in Newport. She was born in Claremont, NH on March 26, 1906 the daughter of John Wilford and Mary Ann (MacPherson) McCusker. She was a graduate of Stevens High School in the class of 1925. Nell was a member of the Ladies Union Aid Society, Claremont Historical Society, Union Episcopal Church and the Claremont Garden Club, she was also a recipient of the Boston Post Cane. She was the widow of William M. Bateman who died on July 3, 1979. The surviving family includes one son-in-law; Virgil A. Cain of Helena, MT; one granddaughter, Megan A. Mesa of Helena, MT; two great-grandchildren, Kelsie Pomatto and Sean Manyen; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Carolyn A. Cain on May 22, 2007; four brothers, Henry W. McCusker, Sr. in 1971, George B. McCusker, Sr. in 1979, James F. McCusker, Sr. in 1982 and John W. McCusker, Jr. in 1996; four sisters, her twin Anne “Nan” Eastman in 2000, Madeleine Piane in 1978, Margaret McCusker in 1978 and Dorothy McCusker in 1990. There will be no visiting hours. Graveside services will be held in Mountain View Cemetery in Claremont on Saturday November 19th at 1PM with Rev. Marthe Dyner, Pastor of the Union Episcopal Church, officiating. A reception will follow at the Union Episcopal Church Hall on Old Church Road in Claremont.
