Norman Clarence Martin, 87, formerly of Pleasant Valley Estates, died Wednesday morning, July 20, 2011 at the McCoy Home in Newport, NH. He was born on July 26, 1923 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Clarence and Florence (Miles) Martin. Norman was raised in Westford, VT and had resided in Windsor, VT for several years before moving to Claremont in 1998. He was a Veteran of World War II having served in the Unites States Navy. He had attended the Vermont School of Agriculture for one year then went to work in Randolph where he did lab work for the Creamery Furniture Store. In 1951 he went to work for Cone Automatic Machine Company as a machinist and retired after 35 years. Norman was a member of the Masonic Cheshire #23 of Cornish, D.A.V. and a life member of Chapter #20. He was the widower of Mary Edna (Gardner) Martin who passed away in 1977. The family includes one son, Norman W. “Bill” Martin of Ascutney, VT; two daughters, Mary S. Martin of Lincoln, OR, Tammy Aldrich and her husband, Kenneth of Claremont, NH; eight grandchildren, Gregory Martin, Daniel Martin, Sandra Tuck, Matthew Martin, Kyle Martin, Christopher Aldrich, Noelle Aldrich, Bethany Aldrich and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by one son, David H. Martin in 1992; one brother, Howard Martin in 1951; one sister, Doris Trombley in 1997 and long time companion Alice Giguere. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, July 22nd from 6-8 PM at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street, Claremont, NH. Funeral services will be held at the Funeral Home on Saturday, July 23rd at Eleven O’clock in the morning with Pastor Stephen Cook of the Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor, VT. |
