Roald (Rolly) Cann of Weathersfield, VT died peacefully at his home on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at the age of 82. He was well known as a kind and compassionate person who loved and respected all living things. Rolly came to the United States from the Netherlands at the age of 12 and spent his early years here growing up in New Jersey. He received his Masters Degree in 1953 while working on torpedo and missile guidance systems at MIT. He married Lois Jenkins in 1955 and they were together until her death in 2005. Rolly worked at Bryant Grinder Corporation in Springfield, VT for almost 40 years and traveled all over the world as a systems troubleshooter. Because of his genuine kindness and skill at solving problems, he made friends everywhere he went. He believed in and supported his community by serving on many boards and doing volunteer work, most recently at the Precision Museum in Windsor, VT. All his neighbors knew they could call on him to fix anything that broke from children’s toys to bulldozers. The greatest joys in his life were his two granddaughters, Alison and Anna Numme with whom he spent many hours enjoying books, games and pizza. He is survived by a daughter, Pam and her husband, Dave Numme of Claremont NH, their daughters, Alison and Anna, a son, Donn Cann and his wife, Brenda of Meriden, NH and a brother, Fred of Wilton NH. He was predeceased by his wife, Lois in 2005 and a son, Pete in 2010. A service to share memories of Rolly’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, it is asked that friends and family practice a random act of kindness. |
