Ronald Douglas Brown, 68, of Langseth Avenue, died unexpectedly Monday afternoon, January 3, 2011, at home.   He was born in Claremont, NH on July 21, 1942 the son of Horace and Mildred (Beaudoin) Brown.  He resided in Monroe, NH for 25 years and returned to Claremont in 1993.

Ron graduated from Stevens High School in the Class of 1961, received his Bachelor of Education in Social Science from Plymouth State College and received his Masters Degree in Physical Education from Eastern Michigan University.

He taught physical education and coached basketball, baseball and soccer   at Bradford  Academy from 1968-1970 and retired in 1987 from Blue Mountain Union High School in Wells River, VT where he also taught physical education and coached basketball and baseball. While at Blue Mt. Union, he led his teams to Vt. State Basketball championships in 1972, 1979, 1982, 1985 and 1986; Vt. State Basketball runners-up in 1971, 1973, 1978 and 1987; Vt. State Baseball championships in 1972 and 1973.    Because of his outstanding achievements as a coach, the athletic fields at BMU were named in his honor.

He was a former member of the Polaski Masonic Lodge #58 F&AM of Wells River, VT.

Ron directed and coached Babe Ruth and Little League Baseball and organized and was involved in various basketball and baseball clinics throughout his career. He also wrote articles for basketball and baseball athletic journals.  He was proud to have been Assistant Coach to Bob Welch and Bob Owchinko while at Eastern Michigan University who later went on to play Major League Baseball.

Awards included International Who’s Who in Community Service, 1974, Men of Achievement, 1974 and Community Leaders of American Society, 1972.  He was inducted into the Vermont Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2008.

The surviving family includes his wife, Judy Lynn (Kasaras) Brown of Claremont whom he married in November of  1968; one daughter, Karlyce Ann Rogers and her husband, Shawn; two granddaughters, Kaylee and Kassidee Rogers all of Plainfield; one sister, Ann Glynn of Claremont and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one sister, Violet Lewis in 1984.

Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad St., Claremont, NH on Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday morning, January 8th at eleven o’clock at the funeral home.

A graveside committal service for Ronald D. Brown of Langseth Avenue, in Claremont who died January 3, 2011 will be held Saturday May 21st at 1PM in Mountain View Cemetery.  

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Goodwin Community Center, 130 Broad Street, Claremont, NH 03743 for Claremont Youth Baseball or Basketball.
