Carroll “Pete” Demars, 84, Megan Place, died on April 17, 2012 at Sullivan County Nursing Home in Unity.

He was born in Charlestown, NH on May 31, 1927 the son of Alfred J. and Yvonne R. (Boisvert) Demars.

Pete spent his early years on the family farm in Walden, VT and had attended St. Mary’s Grammar School.  He left school to work at the Griswold’s Farm on Hanover Street Extension.

Pete was veteran of World War II having served in the United States Navy.  He was a Seaman 1st class, having served on the USS Sidonia, USS Massachusetts and the USS Washington.

After the war he went back to work at Sullivan Machine, later Joy Manufacturing Company and retired in 1984 after more than 40 years.

He was a member of the American Legion in Claremont and was an avid reader, especially about World War II, word search puzzles, puttering around the house, loved to dance and enjoyed his family.

The family includes his wife, Irene N. (Blanchard) Demars, whom he married on June 4, 1949, having celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary last year; one daughter, Sandra Brown and her husband, Ralph of Brownsville, VT;  one sister, Claire Terriciano of Southington, CT; four grandchildren, Brian Meron of Claremont, Adam Piselli and his wife, Kelly of Hartland, VT, Jonathan Russell of Brownsville, VT and Evan Russell of Hartland, VT; one great-grandson, Andrew Piselli; one aunt, Dorothy Arel of Unity, also nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Lynn S. Meron on October 17, 2003.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 21st at 1:00 PM, with Rev. Father Stanley J. Piwowar, officiating, at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street, Claremont, NH 03743.

Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
