Doris Marie Smead, 78, of Cornish, died Wednesday morning, December 5, 2012 at her home, surrounded by all five of her loving children in her final days. She was born in Claremont, NH on November 8, 1934 the daughter of Conrad J. and Angelina (Descoteau) Martell. Doris had worked as a stitcher at several of the local shoe shops including Encore Shoe. She loved bingo, fishing and gardening. She was the widow of Robert T. Smead, Sr., whom she married on April 23, 1955 and he passed away on March 29, 1989. Doris should be remembered for her love of all of her children & grandchildren. Doris also really loved to take annual trips to Foxwoods Casino and play bingo at Harry’s in White River Jct., VT and play Yahtzee with her family. The surviving family includes three sons, Robert T. Smead, Jr., of Bristol, CT, John M. Smead, of West Gardiner, ME and Joseph L. Smead, of Cornish, NH; two daughters, Debra A. Casper, of White River, JCT, VT and Diane K. Ingalls, of Cornish, NH; eleven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, Conrad Martell, Sr; two sisters, Juliette Wade and Melina Sevene. The family wishes to thank the VT & NH Hospice, VNA Staff and especially Dianne Howard, Mom’s “favorite nurse” for all of her tender care & support for Doris and the family. Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Monday evening from 6-8PM. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 11th at Eleven O’clock in the morning with Rev. Father Shawn M. Therrien, Pastor of St. Mary Church, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.
