Elizabeth “Liesel” Rosenberg, formerly of Claremont, NH, died June 14, 2012 in Sarasota, FL.

She was born on November 27, 1922 in Cologne, Germany, the daughter of Elfreide and Ernst Kaufmann.

During World War II, Mrs. Rosenberg emigrated from Germany to Holland in 1938, due to Nazi persecution of the Jews.  When the Germans invaded Holland in 1940, she went into hiding to escape the Holocaust which eliminated all those Jews who fell into the hands of the Nazis.  She lived in an attic for three years and fortunately survived the war.  She immigrated to the United States in 1946 and married Harry Rosenberg, who was living in Claremont at that time.

In 1987, Mrs. Rosenberg began activities in both New Hampshire and Florida schools to speak to students in both Middle and High School totell her wartime experiences so the young people could hear directly from a survivor, while they studied that time in history.  Her story had been told and recorded countless times.  These were her proudest moments.

She is survived by her son, Andrew and his wife, Cheryle of Milford, MA; two grandsons, Michael and Matthew and his wife, Carli; two great grandsons, Sam and Eli, nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are with Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street, Claremont, NH.

Interment will be held on Sunday, July 22, 2012 at 9:30 AM at Meyer David Cemetery in Claremont.

A reception will follow at Temple Meyer David, 25 Putnam Street, Claremont, NH.

Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, 100 Raoul Wallenberg PL SW, Washington, DC 20024.
