George “Sonny” Carlos Welch, 85, of 32 Bible Hill, died Tuesday evening, June 5, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Newbury, VT on February 19, 1927 the son of George J. and Violet Mary (Minshull) Welch.

Sonny graduated in 1945 from Newbury High School.  After graduation he joined the Army Air Force where he had served for five and a half years. 

He had resided in Claremont since 1968 and had previously resided in Massachusetts and Springfield, VT.

Sonny had worked as a truck driver for St. Johnsbury Trucking for 19 years, Guimond Farm and Idlenot Dairy Farm. 

He was also an avid hunter, fisherman and guitar player.

The family includes; his wife, Anita L. (Cowan) Welch, whom he married on October 19, 1955; four sons, George H. Welch and his wife, Teresa of Springfield, VT, Danny J. Welch of Claremont, Barry L. Welch of Lempster, Darrell J. Welch and his wife, Lisa of Claremont; two daughters, Wanda L.  Welch and her husband, Gary of Springfield, VT, Paula J. Hewey and her husband, Richard of Springfield, VT; one brother, Gene A. Welch of West Topsham, VT; eleven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and his cat Sassie.

He was pre-deceased by two brothers, Carlos Welch and Roy Welch; two sisters, Katherine Haskell and Shirley Maxwell.

Visiting hours will be held at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street, Claremont, NH on Sunday, June 10^th from 5-7 PM. 

Funeral services will be held on Monday morning, at Eleven O’Clock at the Stringer Funeral Home, with Pastor Priscilla Hull.

Burial will follow in Union Cemetery with military honors.
