Gordon “Slim” Irving Berquist, 78, formerly of Acworth Road in Charlestown, NH, died Sunday evening, December 16, 2012 at Elm Wood Center at Claremont.

He was born in Boston, MA on March 4, 1934, the son of Frank I. and Gladys Pauline (Roper) Berquist.

Slim had worked at General Castings Corporation for 32 years.  In 1985 he started his own business, the Hemlock Foundry Corporation retiring in 2003.  He also owned Rose’s General Store on Main Street in Charlestown for many years.

Slim was a member of the Charlestown Congregational Church and had served as a trustee.

He was a member and Past President of the Charlestown Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow and a Rotary Foundation Benefactor.

Slim was also a member of the following organizations, St. Paul’s Masonic Lodge, Grafton-Sullivan Forest Fire Wardens Association, Springfield Chapter #1 of NAFCA, Mantowa Chapter #40 & Hands Across the Border in Canada.  He was Past President of many organizations and he taught Hunters Safety for over 20 years for the State of NH.

Slim enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, tying his own flies, cribbage and pitch.

The surviving family includes, five children; Jack Berquist of Charlestown, Linda Manley of TN, Cheryl Turner of MI, Terry Espy of MO and Pauline Bailey of Sunapee; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; one sister, Marion Baker of Charlestown, many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, William H. Berquist in 1965; three brothers, Donald Berquist, David Berquist and Burton Berquist; three sisters, Phyllis Meloney, Claire Sargent and Carolyn Blankenship. 

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 11AM in Mill Village Cemetery in Goshen, NH with Clint Brake officiating.
