Robert “Bob” Nelson Demars, 63, of Townhouse Road, Cornish, NH, died suddenly Wednesday March 7, 2012 while maple sugaring. He was born in Claremont, NH on May 24, 1948, the son of Stanley N. and Georgette C. (Poisson) Demars and resided in Cornish for 27 years. He was a graduate of St. Mary High School in Class of 1966. Bob was a US Navy veteran having served in Vietnam. He retired in 2003 from CRREL US Army Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory in Hanover, NH where he was employed as a photographer for 35 years. He was an active parishioner of St. Mary Church in Claremont, an altar server at funerals, a member and present Chancellor of Knights of Columbus, Fr. Cote Council No.1820 of Claremont, a scout leader of Boy Scout Troop #332 of Cornish, Past President and Fair Director of the Cornish Fair and member of the American Legion Post No. 27 of Lebanon. Bob enjoyed being outside especially maple sugaring, splitting wood and teaching outdoor activities to the scouts. Members of his surviving family include his wife, Luella K. (Bettis) Demars; two sons, Brian Demars and Jesse Demars all of Cornish; one brother, John S. Demars of Claremont; three sisters, Patricia A. Sackevich of Poinciana, FL; Marie A. Spencer of Georges Mills and Kathryn A. Purmort of Newport; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad St., Claremont on Monday evening, March 12th from 6 to 8 PM. The Knights of Columbus will conduct a prayer service at 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 13th, at eleven o’clock in the morning in St. Mary Church with Rev. Shawn M. Therrien, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be held Thursday, March 15th, at 11o’clock in the morning in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH with military honors.
