Ruth S. Moody, 96, of Newport, NH died on July 5, 2012 at Valley Regional Hospital in Claremont. She was born in Quechee, Vt on June 3, 1916 the daughter of Edward A. and Cora (Cole) Smith. Ruth graduated from Hartford High School. She worked as a clerk for the Credit Bureau of Claremont for 19 years and retired in 1978. Ruth was a Past Matron of Woodman Chapter #26, O.E.S. and Past Grand Chaplain of NH Order of Easter Star of State. She married James A. Moody on March 8, 1940 and he died on January 7, 1990. The family includes her daughter, Patricia Hamel and her husband, Robert of Claremont; one great granddaughter, Samantha Miller and several nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Becky Husband; a brother, George Smith and a sister, Velma Hawkins. Visiting hours will be held at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street, Claremont, NH on Monday, July 9th from 6-8 PM with a service conducted by Order of Eastern Star at 7PM. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning, at Eleven O’clock at the Stringer Funeral Home, with Pastor Priscilla Hull. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery in West Claremont.
