Alice May Holden Merrill, 89, of the South Hemlock Road in Charlestown, NH died on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. She was born in Saxton River, VT on June 6, 1924 the daughter of George and Mable (Bacon) Holden. Alice worked for Texas Nursing Home, Keil Lock and was a Homecare worker for the State, but most of all her favorite job was being a mom. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, feeding the birds, flowers and cooking, some of her specialties being donuts, venison pie and baked beans. She loved her cat, Tuffy. A favorite past time was sitting on her porch visiting with friends and family. She was an excellent wife, mother and grandmother. She married Stanley T. Merrill on January 18, 1943 and he died on July 6, 1988. Her family includes her children, Gary Merrill and his wife, Sandi, Daniel Merrill and his wife, Midge, Sandra Hosking and her husband, John all of Charlestown and Ronald Merrill of Claremont; sisters, Amy Kinney, Darlene Hosley and Betty Champney and her husband, Kenneth; a daughter-in-law, Arlene Merrill; many grandchildren and great grandchildren also nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Stanley “Teddy” Merrill Jr.; a sister, Ruth Petitpas; daughter-in-laws, Patricia Merrill and Brenda Merrill; grandsons, Gary Merrill Jr. and Dan Merrill; great grandson, Benjamin Moseley and great great grandson, Taevyn Merrill. Friends may call at the Charlestown Memorial Chapel, 34 Main Street on Monday evening, September 9th from 5 to 8PM. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 10th at the Charlestown Congregational Church on Main Street in Charlestown at 11AM with Rev. Susan Grant Rosen, officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery. |
