Barbara Laura Ryan, 79, formerly of Charlestown, NH died on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at Cedar Hill in Windsor, VT.

She was born in Windsor, VT on March 25, 1934 the daughter of Guy and Gertrude (Potter) Young.

She had resided in Charlestown since she was 5 years old. She attended Plymouth State College and graduated from the Claremont Vo-Tech.

Barbara had worked at her parent’s diner for years and also at Keil Lock Co. then worked for the Postal Service in Charlestown and later became the Postmaster in North Springfield, VT and retired from there on September 3, 1992.

She was a member of the League of Postmasters Quota Club of Springfield and the American Legion Post #37 of Bellows Falls, VT.

Barbara was the widow of Francis T. Ryan who died in 1972. Both Barbara and Frank were in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict where they met.

Her family includes her son, Robert Ryan and his wife, Susan of Springfield, VT and her daughter, Karen O’Brien and her husband, Richard of Walpole; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a daughter, Terri Pope.

Friends may call at the Charlestown Memorial Chapel, 34 Main Street on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30AM prior to the service.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Catherine of the Sienna Church, Main Street in Charlestown on Saturday, August 31st at 11AM with Father Steven Lepine officiating.

Burial will follow in St Catherine Cemetery.
