Charlotte Lovelace Hoover of Springfield, VT and Fairfax, VA passed away on Monday, July 1, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.  She was 94.

She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Maconaughey, her son, Arthur Craig Hoover, her daughter, Sandra H. Mollica, grandson, Timothy Mollica, granddaughters, Melissa Walker, Meredith Klomen and Mallorie Hoover as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their children.

Charlotte and her husband Lawrence were childhood sweethearts. In 7th Grade He went by her desk in school and whispered that he loved her and was going to marry her. They were married in 1941 and had 3 children.  He passed away in 1983.

Together they shared a great passion for the Lord's work. Teaching Sunday School was one of the many highlights of Charlotte’s devotion to God. Her belief in God and desire to further his works was the hinge pin of her life. Everything she did was done as a reflection of her belief in God.

Over the years, they endowed a chair in Pastoral Care and Counseling at the Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, KY, donated a building there, made major gifts to the Baptist World Alliance ,the Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond, Va., Baptist seminaries all over the world, The Southern Baptist International Mission Board, The North American Mission Board, the Baptist Convention of New England, The Green Mountain Baptist Association, Seminary and SBC pastors and churches throughout New England. She participated in dozens of church activities throughout her life. With her husband, she was a world traveler and had a true global view of the world and their ministry in it. In recent years, her heart was with her church and all of New England.

Charlotte loved talking about her work as a legal secretary for the Hogan and Hartson law firm prior to becoming a homemaker. Gardening was her hobby and she was a great prize winner in the Villamay Garden Club.  As frugal as Charlotte was she could always find a few dollars to buy a bit more brightness for that empty spot in the garden. She was the Johnny Appleseed of flowers always eager to share her knowledge.

The saga of sweets and desserts wove its way through Charlotte’s life providing many smiles and fond memories. She enjoyed the challenge of mastering a new recipe but even more enjoyed savoring that last morsel. A day without sweets was a day without sunshine. Fortunately for Charlotte her days were full of both.

She loved the natural beauty of Vermont and often said there was nothing prettier than the mountains and how lucky she was to live here.

The funeral will be held at Precision Valley Baptist Church, North Springfield, VT on Tuesday, July 9 at 5:30 pm.  Burial will take place in Clifton, VA at a later date.
