James A. Smith, 73 of Charlestown, died May 5, 2013 at Peaceful Harvest after a period of declining health. He was born in Petoskey, MI, May 22, 1939, son of Don and Virginia (Starmer) Smith. He graduated from Petoskey High School in 1957. Jim attended Central Michigan University, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps for four years, and later graduated from Northern Michigan University with a degree in education in 1969. He moved to New Hampshire where he taught for several years for the Fall Mountain Regional School District as Industrial Arts teacher. He then went in to sales through out the rest of his life. Jim was a marvelous dad to his three children. He was always up for adventures and enjoyed being outdoors. He was a selfless, caring and truly genuine person. Jim’s sense of humor would bring laughter to those around him. He wore a smile on his face all the time. He will be deeply missed. Survivors include his three children, Christian Smith and his wife, Jane of Houston, TX, Liam Smith and his wife, Angela of Walpole, Bevin Lee and her husband, Travis of Charlestown; two sisters, Janice Ruback and her husband, Kent and Jerrie Smith; a brother-in-law, Lyle Eaton; Grandchildren, Draven Hulser, Liam Smith, Colin Lee, Isabella Smith and Ian Smith; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Virginia and his sister, Kaye Eaton. We would like to thank Stringer Funeral Homes, of Claremont, for helping with the funeral arrangements. A memorial service will be celebrated Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Peaceful Harvest Homes, 144 Paris Ave, Charlestown.
