Raymond Philleson, 93, of Cornish Flat, passed away, Monday, March 18, 2013 at his home. He was born June 4th, 1919 in Holyoke, MA, the son of Phillip and Anna (Willimeinia Boy) Philleson. Ray was a veteran of World War II having served through battle in France and Germany. The decorations he received were the Purple Heart for being wounded while in action on the Maginot Line, the Bronze Star for bravery in the face of enemy fire, presented by Charles DeGaulle the Croix De Guerre Avec De Palme for outstanding patrol duty while in operation on the flanks of the French Army, Vital information was brought back by patrol in which he was in command of, Presidential Citation for Liberating the City of Bitche, the city which served as the enemies main supply route for the entire Maginot Line, This Division, The 100th Century Division, gained the title of the Son’s of Bitche, known throughout the entire theatre and the Infantry Combat Badge, a Decoration more cherished by the Infantry-Man than any other and entitled to wear eight Ribbons. Ray was a Master Mason for 50 yrs. He attended Texas A&M and became a mechanical engineer. When he returned from his service to this country, he returned to Lebanon, NH, married, became the construction foreman at the WRJ VA Hospital building the Quonset huts and felt honored to raise the flag pole to fly the American Flag. He worked many years at Pratt & Whitney building jet engines, proceeding to help start up Habco Engineering from which he retired. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Eleanor and leaves three daughters, Carolyn Surdel and husband, Dan, Sandra DeLuca and Lorna Rae Philleson; four grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held May 18th at 12:30pm in Stringer Funeral Home with our own special Rev. Catherine Michael, officiating. Burial will follow in Edminster Cemetery with military honors.
