Robert Gardner Davis, 93, died in Concord, NH on Sunday, September 1, 2013. 

Bob was the owner-director of the Stoughton-Davis Funeral Home in Claremont, NH for 35 years and was involved in the funeral service for 50 years.  When he retired he sold the business to Stringer Funeral Home.

He was born in Concord on June 21, 1920, the son of Clarence and Grace (Bean) Davis.

He was educated in Concord schools and graduated from Concord High School in 1937.

He was a graduate of New England Institute in Boston, MA in 1946 and a veteran of World War II.

Bob was a member and past president of the NH Funeral Director’s Association.  He also served as executive secretary of the association for several years.  He served two terms on the NH State Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers. 

While living in Claremont, he was a 40 year member and past president of the Claremont Rotary Club.  He was honored by the club as a Paul Harris Fellow.  He served several years as a Trustee and treasurer of the former Claremont General Hospital.  He was named a Life Honorary Trustee of the Hospital.  He served on the Claremont Housing Authority at the time of the building of the Marion Phillips apartments.  He was active in other civic affairs.  He was a member of the Hiram Lodge #9, F & AM in Claremont.  A member and past Noble Grand of Sullivan Lodge #12, IOOF.  He was a former member of other Masonic bodies and Bektash Shrine.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served as Lay Leader, Trustee and Treasurer.

He has been a resident of Havenwood-Heritage Heights Retirement Community in Concord since 1996.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie (Strong) Davis, whom he married on June 12, 1943; three sons, R. Jeffrey Davis and his wife, Jocelyn of Doraville, GA, James R. Davis and his wife, Vienna of Mesa, AZ, Daniel G. Davis and his wife, Rhonda of Fountain Hills, AZ; a daughter, Evelyn (Perry) Holland and her husband, Dennis of Placerville, CA; eleven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including Joan Smith Sahlin and her husband, John of Hopkinton, NH and her son, Jeremy of Concord, Betty Burrill and her husband, Tom of Concord

There will be no visiting hours.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 6th at Havenwood, 33 Christian Avenue, Concord, NH at 1PM.
