Leonard J. Ouellette, 88, of Claremont, NH, went to be with the Lord on

Monday morning, September 29, 2014 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.

He was born in New Ipswich, NH on February 24, 1926 the son of William and Lea (Jacques) Ouellette and has resided in Claremont since 1929.

Leonard retired in July of 1988 from the City of Claremont Highway Department where he worked for 25 years and returned to Parks & Recreation Department and also the Goodwin Community Center where he worked part time for 9 years.

He was a 50 year member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #120.

Leonard enjoyed bingo, cribbage and other card games.

He married his wife, Jean F. (Leavitt) Ouellette on August 27, 1971 and she passed away on January 15, 2014.

The surviving family includes two sons, Lawrence Ouellette of Newport and Lewis Ouellette of Claremont, two daughters, Donna Papps of Claremont and Lori Ricker of Newport; one step-son, Rev. James Hills of Newport; two step-daughters, Sandra Greenwood of Claremont and Cynthia Hurst of Baconton, GA; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; ten step-grandchildren; eleven step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Robert Ouellette of Brownsville, VT, Bernard Ouellette and Edward Ouellette both of Claremont; one sister, Doris Winot of St. Johnsbury, VT;  nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by three brothers, Alfred Ouellette, Armand Ouellette and Ernest Ouellette and one sister, Esther Mills.

Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Wednesday from 2-4 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Mary’s Church on Thursday, October 2nd at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Shawn M. Therrien, Pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
