Gerard H. Joly, 92, of Florida, formerly of Claremont, NH, died on Wednesday evening, September 3, 2014, in Bradenton, FL.  He was born in Claremont on August 18, 1922, the son of Evangeliste and Eva (Dauphin) Joly.  He attended St Mary’s School. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Army. He lived in Claremont most of his life and moved to Florida in 1986. 

 Gerard retired from Joy Manufacturing Company in June of 1983 after 42 years as a machinist and assembler. He was a member of the American Legion and Circle 8 Square Dance, a Scout Leader for 11 years with Troop 38, and served 18 years with the District and State level Daniel Webster Council.

Gerard married his first wife, Shirley M. (O’Dowd) Joly, on May 22, 1948.  She died on July 10, 1986.  He was also predeceased by his daughter Anita L. Munro of CT in 2000, as well as a brother, Paul Joly, and a sister, Antoinette Lafreniere, both of Claremont.

 The family includes his second wife Denise (Foisy) Desilets Joly of FL, to whom he had been married for 26 years; his son, Dr. Robert J. Joly (wife, Nancy S. Hewison) of IN; son-in-law Stephen Munro of CT; stepson Jerald Desilets (Annie Connors) of Bradenton; two grandchildren, Ian Munro of NC and Nicole Munro of Japan; his sisters Evelyn Kennell of Bradenton, Theresa Amell of Claremont, and Pauline Carrigan of Bradenton; also many nieces and nephews.

 Friends and family may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Thursday evening, September 11th from 6 to 8PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 11AM at the Old St Mary Church on Old Church Road in Claremont. Burial will follow in St Mary Cemetery.
