Gordon Trowbridge, 92, of Myrtle Street in Claremont, NH died on Wednesday evening, January 29, 2014 at the Elm Wood Center. A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 11AM on May 24th at the West Claremont Burying Grounds in Claremont. He was born on November 13, 1921 in Holyoke, MA, the son of Gordon P. Trowbridge, Sr. and Alfreda (Bausch) Trowbridge. He was the devoted husband of Margaret (Haeseler) Trowbridge, father of Sandra Tatro and Gordon P. Trowbridge, III, and the brother of Barbara Renaud. Gordon grew up in Northampton, MA, and graduated from Northampton High School in 1939. He attended the University of Massachusetts, where he was a member of the Army ROTC. His education was interrupted by service to his country in World War II as an officer in the 7th Cavalry. He returned to the University of Massachusetts following a tour as a member of the Occupation Forces in Japan. He finished his education in 1950, attaining a BS and MS in chemistry. Following graduation, he worked at the FDA in Boston, MA, until 1954, when he returned to Northampton and was employed by Stanley Home Products in Easthampton, MA. He retired in 1987 as Vice President of the Research & Development and Engineering departments. After his retirement, he moved to Florida and spent winters there and summers at his family cottage in Westhampton, MA, until 2010 when he and his wife moved to Claremont, NH. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, his daughter and her husband, Robert, his son, his sister, four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
