Jean F. Ouellette, 87, of 67 Maple Avenue in Claremont, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday evening, January 15, 2014 at Elm Wood Center in Claremont, after a long illness.

She was born in Goffstown, NH on November 16, 1926 the daughter of Forrest A. and Pearle B. (Greer) Leavitt and had resided in Claremont since 1951.  She was a graduate of Goffstown High School in the Class of 1944.

She worked at Varick Jewelry in Manchester, Ben Franklin in Newport, had owned and operated the Teddy Bear Kindergarten in Newport, Sylvania, Fiske Free Library in Claremont, Hampshire Manufacturing, Woolworth’s as a cashier for 3 years, was a private tutor in Adult Education for 15 years, as a secretary for John Cole Insurance Adjuster for 15 years and retired in 1975.

Jean was a member of the Congregational Church’s in Goffstown and Newport where she was a Sunday School Teacher.

She enjoyed making pillows, dolls and doing embroidery.

Jean was a 58 year member of the D.A.R. Reprisal Chapter of Newport, also had attended the Samuel Ashley Chapter of Claremont D.A.R., had held many state and local offices in the D.A.R., the Society of Stukely Westcott Descendent of America, the women of the Moose Lodge #639, as a child she was a member of the Junior Women’s Auxiliary in Goffstown, a Girl Scout and Brownie Scout Leader in Newport and Claremont and a member of the Claremont, Concord, Goffstown and Dunbarton Historical Society’s.

She was a philanthropist donating to many charities.

Jean and her sister Dorothy sang for the NH and VT Veterans Hospitals and sang on the radio during World War II and she also sang with her son, Rev. Jim and friends for many years.

She loved to travel, especially to the ocean, go camping, fishing, collecting many things including; stamps, coins, dolls, paper dolls, royalty items and Shirley Temple items.

Jean was an avid genealogist and loved astronomy; she also enjoyed teaching and singing.

The family includes her husband, Leonard J. Ouellette of Claremont whom she married on August 27, 1971; one son, Rev. Jim Hills and his wife, Cynthia (Weber) of Newport; two daughters, Sandra (Hills) Greenwood and her husband, Robert of Claremont and Cynthia (Hills) Hurst and her husband, James of Baconton, GA; two step-sons, Lawrence Ouellette of Newport and Lewis Ouellette of Claremont; two step-daughters, Donna Papps of Claremont and Lori Ricker of Newport; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Kay Chestnut of Boulder City, NV also several nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. 

She was pre-deceased by her father in 1934 and mother in 1984; two sisters, Wilma Patronik and Dorothy Arnett; one grandchild, Toby Phillip Greenwood in 1972 and her former husband, Robert C. Hills.

Visiting hours will held at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Saturday January 18th from 1-2 PM.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Saturday with her son, Rev. Jim Hills and grandson, Rev. Michael Greenwood, co-officiating. 

Interment will be on Tuesday, January 21st at Eleven O’clock in the morning in Blossom Hill Cemetery, 207 North State Street, Concord.
