Margaret Spaulding Bascom, 88, formerly of Charlestown and Acworth, died Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Maplewood Nursing Home in Westmoreland, with her husband at her side. She was born Margaret Edith Haddad on April 21, 1926, in Newport, daughter of Elias S. and Grace (Reed) (Jerard) Haddad. She attended schools in Newport and Charlestown. 

 In her early life she had been employed at Nourse's Pharmacy in Charlestown, and in the drafting dept. of Fellows Gearshaper in Springfield, Vt.

 She was married to Robert Spaulding on Sept. 6, 1947 in Charlestown. He died in 1993.

 She was an area realtor for many years, and was named Realtor of the Year by the Sunapee Region Board of Realtors in 1974.  

She served as a corporator of Claremont Savings Bank from 1977 to 2011, and treasurer of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Charlestown for many years.

 Margaret married Harvey Bascom of Acworth on Nov. 12, 2001, in Alstead.

 She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her for her playful sense of humor and her honest character. She was a great lover of animals and nature, and particularly enjoyed bird watching, and the peace and quiet of country life.  She also enjoyed traveling and new experiences.

 Survivors include her husband and his children, Linda and Tom Baker, Jane and Tom Esslinger, Marcia and Cliff Oster, Eileen and Joe Holmes, and Peter and Karen Bascom, her sister Virginia "Dinnie" (Haddad) McClure of Laguna Hills, Calif., and her brother Carlton F. Haddad of Hamden, Conn. She also leaves her sister and brother-in-law from her first marriage, Priscilla and Charles White of Charlestown, her brother and sisters-in-law from her second marriage, Allyn and Betsy Bascom, Marjorie Hayes, and Marion Bascom, as well as many loving nieces and nephews, including  

Cynthia (Barone) Parker of Calif., Charles Barone of Pa., Linda Barone of Mont., Albert Jerard of Chesterfield, Carolyn Jerard of Acworth, Robert Jerard of Durham, Mary (Jerard) Kenny and Deborah (Jerard) Hirt, both of Vt., Stephen Jerard of Tex., Joel McClure, Margaret McClure, and Andrew McClure, all of Calif., Cynthia (Haddad) Hamburger and Jonathan Haddad, both of Conn., Mark White of Springfield, Vt, and Brenda White of New M.

 She was predeceased by her sisters Carolyn (Jerard) Barone of Calif. and Mary D. Haddad of New London, and her brother Albert B. "Jerry" Jerard of Brattleboro.

 A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 15th at 3:00 p.m. at the South Parish Unitarian Church, Main St., Charlestown, NH.
