Marion Grace Sammon, 103, formerly of Charlestown, died on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Sullivan County Health Care in Unity, NH. She was born August 25, 1911 in Charlestown, NH the daughter of Percy William and Lura Belle (Howe) Roy. Marion enjoyed tole painting, rug hooking and gardening. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed having guests over to eat, she also decorated cakes for birthdays and weddings. Marion was known for her fruitcakes at Christmas and during WWII, she made 1500 custard cup sized fruitcakes, with the help of friends and family which were sent to the men in the service by the Red Cross. She was a Girl Scout leader and a member of the Home Dem Club. Marion married George J. Sammon on August 18, 1930 and he died on February 17, 1974. The family includes two daughters, Jean Malia of Kaneohe, Hawaii and Margaret Teder of Excelsior, MN; eight grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Freda Monroe of Claremont and Marie Fitch of Florida and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by one daughter, Alicia Heumann and one brother, Richard Roy. A time of fellowship and sharing will be held at Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street, Claremont, from 11AM to 1PM on Wednesday, October 29th. A reception will follow at New Socials on Pleasant Street in Claremont. Burial will be held later in Hope Hill Cemetery in Charlestown. |
