Maynard Nial Bemis, 80, died on February 2, 2014 following a long illness. He was born onMarch 3, 1933 in Westminister West, Vermont to Ernest and Lucy (Thurber) Bemis.

Maynard was the youngest of seven children and was predeceased by his brothers, Barton, Gordon, and Hugh and his sisters, Charlotte Lawrence and Barbara Goldsmith. His brother, Howard (Chub) Bemis lives in Swanzey, NH.

Maynard moved to Charlestown, NH in 1937, where he resided the rest of his life. He was a 1951 graduate of Charlestown High School and attended Wentworth Institute in Boston, Mass, where he received his degree in machine technology.

Maynard joined the Air Force in 1956 and met the love of his life while stationed at Upper Heyford Air Force base in Oxfordshire, England.

Maynard married Margaret (Holt) Bemis in 1958, while still in England. They had three children together Martin  Bemis, Carl Bemis (deceased 1960), and Gillian Bemis. Martin and his wife Carol (Stiles) Bemis live in Jamaica, VT. Gillian and her husband Michael Bung reside in Charlestown, NH.

Maynard was the proud Grandpa to five biological grandchildren, Thomas and Matthew Bemis of Jamaica, Vt and Eric and Ryan Bentley of Charlestown, NH. His granddaughter, Marissa Bentley, lives in Walpole, NH with her significant other, Garrett Swain. He was also known as Grampa in the hearts of numerous other children including Justin and Jessica Zabielski and Heather Brown.

He will be fondly remembered as a loving, family man by all including his in-laws, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as his numerous  relatives in England.

Maynard worked as a machinist for 38 years including tenure at Enterprise Machine in North Walpole, NH and Fuller Machine in East Alstead, NH.  He retired in 1995 and spent much of his free time following his grandchildren's sporting and musical events as their most loyal and vocal fan. The remainders of his years were spent tinkering in his yard on his 1931 Model A Ford or his growing number of lawn mowers and snowblowers.  This would be how he received his unofficial title as "Mr Fix It" from those who knew and loved him. Maynard also served as a faithful sidekick to his wife, Margaret, at the Charlestown Senior Center for the past ten years.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Charlestown Senior Center on February 15th at 2:00 pm.
