Normand Pierre Benoit, 88, of Claremont, died on Monday, March 3, 2014 at his home. 

He was born in Claremont on January 9, 1926 the son of Leo and Rosilda (Racette) Benoit.

Normand had attended St. Mary High School and was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Navy. 

He lived in Claremont for 75 years and worked at the State Liquor Store, for the State of NH for thirty-two years and retired in 1986. 

Normand had moved to Fort Lauderdale, FL and had lived there for thirteen years and had returned to Claremont in 1999.

He was a former 25 year member of both, the Knights of Columbus, Council & Assembly and also the American Legion Post#29.

Normand had married Jeannine L. (St. Sauveur) Benoit on December 27, 1948. She died on July 11, 1989.

The family includes one daughter, Louise B. Carpenter and her husband, David, Sr. of Claremont; one daughter-in-law, Colleen Benoit of Virginia Beach, VA; eight grandchildren, Vicki Corliss, Kelly Rice, Angela Miller, David Carpenter, Jr. all of NH, Jaclyn Boone, Eric Benoit of Virginia, Kelly Busch of NC and Brian Whitmore of MD, seventeen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one son, Allen L. Benoit whom died in April of 2013 and one brother, Leonard Benoit.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday evening, March 6th from 6-8 PM at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street, Claremont.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Church on Friday, March 7th at 11:00 AM with Rev. Shawn M. Therrien, Pastor, Officiating.

Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery with military honors.
