Robert Allan White, Sr., 92, of Grannis Street in Claremont, NH, having lived a long and active life, died on Tuesday morning, June 17, 2014 at his home. Born in Claremont, NH on July 23, 1921, the son of Leonard G. and Clara (Grendell) White, also spent his youth living on Martha's Vineyard. He recently returned from California to spend another summer in Claremont to enjoy attendance at alumni festivities as a graduate of Stevens High School, Class of 1940. Robert was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army in Panama, Africa and Italy followed by 27 years in the Army National Guard. Last November he enjoyed a 4 day Veterans cruise to Mexico to celebrate veterans of all wars, where he received a multitude of thankful gratitudes for service to their country along with several other WW II veterans also cruising. He worked for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company for 37 years and retired in 1983 at which time he and his wife moved to California, returning annually to spend summers in Claremont. He was a life member of the VFW, former past Commander of Post #808 and a former vestryman of the Union Episcopal Church. Robert married his wife, Erdine (Buswell) White on May 26, 1946 whom predeceased him on January 21, 2010. The family includes five sons, Robert White, Jr., Mark White and Jonathan White all of Claremont, Dennis White and Kevin White both of Alabama; three daughters, Susan White of Wilton, Kimberly McSwain and Marcia White both of California; 13 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He eagerly visited his youngest great grandchild last year in South Africa. He also has many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul White, Arlo White and Cedric White and two sisters, Esther Kelty and Audrey Hagland. A Graveside service will be held in West Claremont Burying Ground on Wednesday morning, June 25th at 11AM with Rev. Marthe Dyner, Pastor of the Union Episcopal Church, officiating. A reception will follow at the Union Episcopal Church Hall on Old Church Road in Claremont. |
