Robert Radford Owen, Sr. died after a brief illness on Thursday, April 10, on Long Island.  Born in Claremont on June 8, 1921 to Elizabeth and Roy Owen, Mr. Owen grew up on Woodland Street and graduated from Stevens High School in 1939.  He attended Northeastern University in Boston, and both during World War II and afterwards served in the Merchant Marine.  He then worked in the insurance industry in New York City, and retired from the Long Island Savings Bank in 1990.  Mr. Owen was a jazz enthusiast and aviation buff, and beginning in 1960, active in the Syosset Community Church - especially its choir. His wife, Carola, died in 1967.  He is survived by his son, Robert, Jr., with whom he resided in Hicksville, New York until his death.

Funeral services will be held at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Saturday, April 26th at 12PM. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
