Roger M. Ferland, 85, of Long Pond Road in Lempster, NH died March 18, 2014 at Elm Wood Center in Claremont.

He was born in Pawtucket, RI on April 8, 1928 the son of Herve and Rose (Maurice) Ferland and had resided in Lempster since 1973, previously in North Charlestown for five years and on Cedar St. in Claremont for twenty years. 

Roger retired in 1984 from Joy Manufacturing Company where he worked as a machinist for 33 years and had previously worked in the Woolen Mill, before enlisting in the US Army for 3 years at age 17. 

He was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army.

Roger had taken care of Lempster Long Pond for several years having maintained both the beach and boat landing. 

Roger was a member of the Lempster Long Pond Protection Association for over 40 years, being a charter member, was a former member of the Moose Lodge #1201, the American Legion Post #29 for over 20 years both of Claremont and the Newport Senior Citizens for many years.

His garden was his enjoyment and also enjoyed sharing his organic produce with family and friends.

Rogers greatest pleasure was taking the grandchildren on vacation with them.

The surviving family includes his wife, Madeline L. (Russell) Ferland of Lempster whom he married on Sept. 16, 1950 in Charlestown;  two sons, John Ferland and his wife, Ruth and James Ferland all of Cornish; one daughter, Joan Stevens of Lempster; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; three sisters, Mary Brown of Florida, Germaine Cook of Unity and Theresa Lessard and her husband, Henry of Milford; two brothers, Norman Ferland and his wife, Rita of Unity and Robert Ferland of Oklahoma; also numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was pre-deceased by a daughter, Roseanna Ferland; a grandson, Mark Marsh; two brothers, Maurice Ferland, Ralph Ferland and his wife, Yvonne and four nephews, Matthew Ferland, Paul Ferland, Stanley Russell, Bernard Reynolds and a step-granddaughter, Cheryl Caswell.

There will be no visiting hours or services at this time.

Graveside services will be held at the New Hampshire Veteran’s Cemetery in Boscawen, NH at a later date.

For guest wishing to attend there is a time for visiting on Saturday, March 22nd from 12-5 PM at the Ferland’s home at 233 Long Pond Road in Lempster.
