Chester Michael Gierko, 84, of Pleasant Street in Claremont, NH died on May 25, 2015 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Claremont born on August 21, 1930, the son of Ludwik and Urszula (Silistrowski) Gierko.

Chet graduated from Stevens High School in the class of 1948. He then joined the US Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict.

He retired from Joy Manufacturing and then worked for Costa Precision Manufacturing.

He was a dedicated Boston sports fan who enjoyed his daily newspaper and word search puzzles.

He was on the Claremont Fire Department Hose Company for 28 years and retired as a Captain in 1988.

Chet married his beloved wife, Shirley M. Young, on July 12, 1969 who died on June 1, 2011.

The family includes his daughter, Debra Gierko, of Claremont and the cats, Flash and Patches; also many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, John J. Gierko in 2004 and Richard Gierko in 2002; also a sister, Helen Scannell in 2003.

Friends and family may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Thursday evening, May 28th from 6 to 8PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Church on Friday Morning at 10AM with Father Shawn Therrien officiaiting.

Burial will follow in St Mary Cemetery.
