Donald ”Red” Ralph Syriac, 80, of Fenway Lane of Claremont died
Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Elmwood Genesis Center in Claremont following
a period of failing health. He was born May 16, 1934, in Claremont, the
son of George and Eclida (Daniels) Syriac. Donald attended St. Mary’s
and graduated June 14, 1953. He then signed up to serve our great
country in the Air Force. He served in the US Air Force and retired
after over twenty years. He
was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal on April 24, 1975. During
his service he was stationed in many places. One of which was Yokota,
Japan. It was here where he met his love, Kaneko Unoki whom he married
on August 21, 1973. They returned to Claremont in May 1975 where they
remained. Donald worked for many local companies, the longest being the
woolen mill. Donald had a
great sense of humor and loved a good joke. He was quick to laugh and
enjoyed telling jokes. He was quick to smile. He was a member of the
American Legion for 28 years. He enjoyed playing pool and horseshoes. He
was a big Red Sox fan and Celtics fan. He was predeceased by his brother
George Syriac, his sister Gloria Reed and her husband, Gerald, his
sister Claire Leavitt and her husband, Merton. He is survived by his
wife, Kaneko Syriac and many nieces and nephews who will miss him
dearly.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday evening, March 13th
from 5 to 7 PM at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in
Claremont.
Funeral services will be on Saturday morning at 11AM in the Funeral Home
with Father Patrick, Chaplin of the VA Hospital officiating.
A reception will follow at the Common Man Restaurant on Water
Street. |
