Louis Mark “Pit” Tewksbury, 81, of Morways Park in Charlestown, died
early Sunday morning, June 28, 2015, at the VA hospital in White River
Junction, following a sudden illness.
His family was with him as he passed.
Pit was born January 17, 1934, the son of Paul and Isabella
(Clow) Tewksbury. He grew
up in Cornish, the fifth of seven children and attended Cornish schools.
He married Constance Blish on October 27, 1951.
Together, they traveled throughout the United States, from east
coast to west coast, and as far north as Alaska, and as far south as
Mexico. They enjoyed
traveling, camping, playing cards, and visiting with family and friends.
They have spent winters in Wildwood, Florida for several years
and enjoyed many activities with family and friends there, especially
watching country music shows.
After 50 or so years of marriage, Connie, an avid Red Sox fan,
finally made a fan out of Pit, and they spent many summer evenings in
front of the TV cheering on the Sox. Pit also enjoyed playing his guitar
and singing.
Pit worked at St. Johnsbury Trucking Company for 38 years before
he retired. Once he retired
from St. Johnsbury, he drove for his nephew at Jewell Transport.
Driving was in his blood, as it was not uncommon for Pit and
Connie to go for a Sunday drive, only to return several hours and 300
miles later!
He served his country in the Army with two different terms of
service during the years of 1956 – 1958 and was called up again for the
Berlin Crisis in 1961.
Pit is survived by his wife of 63 years, Connie; his daughter, Lisa
Sweet, and her husband, Scott of Cornish; his son, Randy Tewksbury of
Newport, NH, and five grandchildren, Alexandra Schuhriemen, and her
husband , John of Wheaton, IL; and Isaac, Ethan, Samuel, and Annemarie
Sweet, all of Cornish. He
also leaves behind a sister, Josephine Jewell, and her husband, Milton,
of Cornish; and two
brothers, Raymond Tewksbury, of Claremont, and Tharon Tewksbury, and his
wife Lucy, of Unity; and two sisters-in-law, Claire Tewksbury and
Lorraine Tewksbury, both of Claremont.
He is predeceased by his parents, a sister, Elsie Johnson, two
brothers, Roland Tewksbury and Eugene Tewksbury, a grandson, Brady
Sweet, two sisters-in-law, Geraldine
Tewksbury and Shirley Tewksbury, and a brother-in-law, Howard Johnson.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 2, at 1pm, at
Stringer Funeral Home, Broad St., Claremont.
Fr. Steve Lapine of All Saints Parish in Charlestown, and Fr.
Shawn Therrien of St. Mary Parish, Claremont will officiate.
Interment will follow at Edminster Cemetery, Cornish, NH.
Friends may call at Stringer Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 1
from 5-7pm.
