Newport, NH: Margaret (Peggy) Elizabeth Demers, 83, of Crescent Street, passed away at the New London Hospital in New London, NH, Friday afternoon, March 6, 2015 with her two daughters by her side following a short period of declining health.
Peggy was born in Brooklyn, NY, February 6, 1932, daughter to the late Jack Muller and Harriet (Carroll) Muller. She lived in New York until she was 13 when the family moved to Newport, New Hampshire.  She always remained a true New Yorker at heart and made many trips back to the city throughout her life. She was a member of the Towle High School Class of 1950. Peggy worked for many years as a telephone operator when phone lines were push and plug, for Joy Manufacturing, and for 23 years in customer service at Public Service of New Hampshire (PSNH) until her retirement in 1992.  Peggy loved spending time on weekends at her cottage on Big Island Pond in Hampstead, NH.  She also loved to travel and one of her favorite trips was to five countries in Europe in 1992, one of which was her father’s native Switzerland where she visited remaining family.  She took many trips to Las Vegas and Florida. In her later years she enjoyed bingo, scratch tickets, and day trips to gamble at Foxwoods.  She was a Jeff Gordon fan and loved watching NASCAR on Sunday afternoons.
Peggy is survived by her two daughters; Ann Jasper and her husband, Bruce, of Newport; Carol Gouin and her husband, Steve, of Newport; her brother and sister-in-law; John and Mary Muller, of Derry, NH; nieces and nephews; Michael Muller, Mitchell Muller, Jennifer (Muller) Venne and family.  She was predeceased by her husband Roland Demers in 1987, and a younger brother James Carroll who died in WWII.
At Peggy’s request there will be no calling hours. 

A Graveside service for Margaret (Peggy) Elizabeth Demers, 83, of Crescent Street, Newport who passed away at New London Hospital on March 6, 2015 will be held Friday morning April 24th at 11AM in Pine Grove Cemetery in Newport with Rev. Father George Majka of St. Joseph Church officiating.
Memorial Donations can be made in Peggy’s memory to Father Flanigan’s Boys Town and St. Jude’s Research Hospital.
