Melvin Nelson, of Unity, NH formerly of Springfield, NH passed away peacefully on April 26, 2015 after a long illness.

He was born on June 28, 1940 in Cornish, NH the son of Levi and Hazel (Burke) Nelson.

Melvin attended schools in Cornish and Plainfield and worked as a finish carpenter for several construction companies in the Upper Valley as well as his own business, Mel’s Carpentry in later years.

He leaves behind two sisters, Betty Errington and her husband, Walt of Ascutney, VT, Sharon Rogers and Tom Carpenter of Claremont; four nieces, Kathy Dennis, Samantha Dubois, Peggy Leva and Bonnie Soule; two nephews, Chad Rogers and Jake Rogers; and many grandnieces and nephews; also his best friends, Cathy Nelson, Robbie Heath and Robert Miller.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Emily Cook and a brother-in-law, Jeff Rogers.

Melvin is remembered by family and friends as a very kind and generous man. He will be greatly missed by those of us that knew and loved him.

A memorial service will be held at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Saturday, May 2nd at 11AM with Priscilla Hull, officiating.  Burial will be at a later date in Moulton Cemetery in Plainfield.
