Robert B. Couitt, 67, of 7 Stewart Avenue in Claremont, lost his brave but brief battle with cancer on Thursday, March 12th at Sullivan County Health Care in Unity, N.H..  He was surrounded with family, friends, and love as he ended his life journey here on Earth.  “Bobby” was a devoted Son, a loving Brother, and the world’s best Uncle.  He was so much more to all of us then those titles.  He was a father figure to his brothers and sisters and took the utmost pride in any and all accomplishments that his siblings achieved.  He devoted many years of his life to providing care for his mother, Alfreda Couitt, as Alzheimer’s became a part of our family as well.

Bobby was a proud retired police detective, having served 10 years on the Claremont Police Department from 1972 to 1982  He later went on to supervise the Food Pantry at the Claremont Soup Kitchen, working with many local families in need.  He had a heart of gold and genuinely cared about and enjoyed working with families.

Perhaps one of his greatest gifts was the gift of love he gave to all of his nieces and nephews.  “Uncle Bob” was the proverbial Uncle that we all wish we had.  The mischief, tricks, and bad words he taught his adoring nieces and nephews are some of the fondest memories they have.

Bobby loved country music (classic Country, aka the oldies but goodies), he was, to say the least, a very emotional Red Sox and New England Patriot’s fan.  He was an amazing gardener with a knack for growing delicious tomatoes and peppers in the smallest of spaces, and his cooking was top notch as well.

He is survived by his mother, Alfreda Couitt of Unity, NH, his twin brother, Richard Couitt (Earlene) of Claremont, his sisters, Brenda Beebe (Jim) of Springfield, VT, Debra Couitt of Charlestown, NH, Cathy Paradis of Claremont, NH, Bonnie Gales (Robert) of Lempster, NH and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as his dear friend, Maryanne Purple of Claremont and his beloved dogs and cat. He was predeceased by his father, Philip Couitt; his brothers, Henry Couitt, Gerard Couitt, Edward Couitt in 2001, Philip Couitt in 2010, Jack Beyor in 1996 and his sister, Gail Serem in 2008.

Visiting hours will be held at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Monday, March 16th from 6 to 8PM.

A graveside service will be held in Pine Grove Cemetery in Newport on Tuesday, March 17th at 11AM with Father George Majka, officiating.
