Theodore Vernon Delaney, 89, formerly of Elm
Street Claremont NH died after a brief illness on January 15, 2015.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Rose Marie (Lariviere)
Delaney.
Ted was born
in Guysborough, Nova Scotia on April 26, 1925, to the late Vernon Cyrus
and Edith (Porter) Delaney.
In the late 1920’s Ted and his family emigrated from Nova Scotia to
Newport, NH where he graduated from Towle High School in 1943.
Ted enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Corps, attended Michigan State
for training, was commissioned an officer, and trained and served as a
navigator on the B-29 aircraft.
He became a U.S. citizen while serving in the Air Corps.
In 1946 he married his high school sweetheart, Rose, and they
moved to Claremont in 1956.
Under the GI Bill, Ted graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology
in Boston. After graduation from the Wentworth Architectural Engineering
Program with building design knowledge and job estimating skills, Ted
went to work for Page Construction of Claremont where he was estimator
and construction supervisor for 22 years. He then worked as Building
Project Manager for United Construction of Newport for an additional 18
years. Ted was passionate
about his work and uncompromising in regards to his building standards.
Over his career, Ted was responsible for the construction and
renovation of numerous buildings in the Upper Valley/Lake Sunapee region
especially churches and schools.
After retirement he worked for the State of NH, City of
Claremont, and the Claremont School Department helping to oversee
various building projects.
Ted was a
welcoming person with many passions and especially enjoyed hunting with
his father and brother, collecting firearms and old Willys Jeeps,
splitting his own wood, and rooting for the Red Sox.
Ted was a
member of the First United Methodist Church, a member and Past Master of
Hiram Masonic Lodge #9, the American Legion Post #29, the National
Society of Professional Engineers, and was Past Chairman of the
Claremont Conservation Commission.
Ted is
survived by his daughter, Janet Delaney Jesanis and her husband Michael
of Sunapee; his son, Allan James Delaney and his wife Paige of Alpine,
Texas; his daughter-in-law Gale Delaney of Claremont, four
grandchildren: John Delaney and his wife Libby Adelman and their
children James and Cora of Silver Spring, Maryland, Sarah Delaney and
her children Nathaniel, Joshua, and Emily Treadway of Claremont, Andrew
Jesanis of Seattle, Washington, and Gregory Jesanis and his fiancé
Amanda Sherman of Acton, Massachusetts; as well as niece Ann Delaney
Wentworth of Newport, NH and several other nieces and nephews
throughout. He was preceded
in death by his brother, Robert Porter Delaney (1999), an infant son,
George, and an infant sister, Dorothy.
The family
would like to reach out to all of his friends at the Summercrest
Assisted Living Facility in Newport, NH as well as the Hiram Lodge
Masonic Order of Claremont to extend our condolences to you who have
lost a friend. Thank you for all of your kindness, support, and caring.

Friends may
call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street, Claremont on
Friday, January 23, 2015 from 6-8 PM with the Hiram Lodge #9 to conduct
their service at 7 PM.
Funeral
services will be held at the Stringer Funeral Home on Saturday, January
24, 2015 at 11 AM, with Rev. Susan Langle, Rector of the Trinity
Episcopal Church. |
