C. Elaine Bailey, 74, of the Old Claremont Road in Charlestown, NH, died Saturday morning, May 27, 2006 at the Cheshire Medical Center, in Keene, NH of cardio pulmonary arrest. She was born in Lyndon, VT on May 21, 1932 the daughter of Gerald and Leah (Aldrich) Masten and had resided in Charlestown for fifty-three years. Elaine and her husband both worked and helped each other work the Cheshire Toll Booth in Charlestown from 1993 until it closed. They would dress to the hilt and wear fancy hats and to some folks where known as the "mad hatters". She was a member of the Charlestown Congregational Church and was instrumental in helping to start the Up Attic Thrift Shop at the church and would work at it 3 to 4 times a week. Mrs. Bailey loved her family and enjoyed her flower garden and shopping. She was the widow of Francis "Frank" Melvin Bailey whom she married on Feb.17, 1951 and he died Aug. 17, 2002. The surviving family includes two sons, Reginald Frank Bailey and his wife, Jan and Rodrick Steven Bailey and his wife, Stephanie; one daughter, Roxanne Bailey and her friend Stephen Shand all of Charlestown; nine grandsons, Tory, Tyson, Tanner, Eric, Justin, Derek, Ryan, Josh and Travis; three great-grandsons and nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by one brother, Gerald Masten and one sister, Beverly Masten. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday morning, June 1st at Eleven O'clock in the Charlestown Congregational Church with Rev. Malcolm Grobe, Interim Pastor, Officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery. The family suggest that donations may be made in her memory to the Charlestown Congregational Church, P.O.
