Isabella "Ella" McLagan, 102, of Broad Street in Claremont, died Sunday
afternoon, July 24, 2005 at the Valley Regional Hospital.

She was born the daughter of a prison warden, James and Jane (Stewart) Don
in Perth, Scotland on January 17, 1903 and immigrated to Claremont in 1951,
after William "Willy"  McLagan, her beloved husband passed away.

In Claremont she joined her sister, Mary Forbes, who was the mother of the
late Dr. James Don Skillen.

Mrs. McLagan worked for several years as a housemother for the former
nursing school affiliated with Dartmouth-Hitchcock, and the students
affectionately called her "Mother McLagan."   She was an avid bridge player
and enjoyed hosting weekly bridge games at her apartment for friends.  She
also was a marvelous cook who enjoyed preparing traditional Scottish foods
such as shortbread, marmalade and barley soup.  Mrs. McLagan lived an
extraordinarily long and happy life.  She lived to earn the honor of keeping
Claremont's "Boston Cane," which is given to the city's oldest citizen.

She is survived by Beatrice "Betty" Skillen of Claremont; Dr. Richard,
Whitney, and Olivia Skillen of Garner, NC and Maisley, William and Elsie
Paxton of Washington, DC.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, July 29th at One O'clock at
the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont with Pastor Scott
Kearns, Assistant Pastor, officiating.

Interment will follow in Mt View Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Friday from 12:30 till 1 PM prior to
