L. Josephine Manley, 97, formerly of 48 Tremont Square in Claremont, died
Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at the Sullivan County Health Care.  She was born in
Brownville, ME on August 8, 1908 the daughter of Thomas P. and Grace L.
(Gilmore) Manley and resided in Claremont since 1937.

She graduated from Plymouth Teachers College in 1928 and received further
credits by attending summer sessions at Bates, University of Colorado,
Cornell, Keene, Penn State, Plymouth, UNH and other extension courses.  Miss
Manley started her teaching career in Lincoln, NH where she taught for two
years and came to Claremont in 1937 and taught fifth grade, first at North
Street for two years, second at the little red school house for three years
in West Claremont and retired in 1971 after thirty-six years at Way School.

She was a communicant of St Mary's Church and one of the original members of
the Sullivan County Retired Teachers Association.

She was pre-deceased by one sister, Mrs. Frank (Waneta M.) Carr and two
brothers, Thomas Manley and Harry Manley.

The surviving family includes two nieces, Nancy Jo Carr of Murfreesboro, TN
and Margaret Tussey of Jacksonville, FL.

Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont
on Thursday evening from 5 to 7 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday morning, May 12th at
Eleven O'clock in St Mary's Church, with Rev. Father Shawn M. Therrien,
Pastor, officiating.   Interment will follow in St Mary's Cemetery.

Miss Manley suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her
memory to St Mary's Church, 32 Pearl Street, Claremont, NH 03743.
