Arthur E. St. Martin, 77, of 34 East St., Charlestown, NH died at his home on    October 4, 2005 surrounded by his beloved family, after a brief battle with cancer. 

He was born in Claremont, NH on Feb. 21, 1928, the son of Ernest G. and Elsie (Brooks) St. Martin.  He resided in Claremont most of his life, attending St. Mary School, graduating St. Mary High School with the Class of 1945.

Arthur attended Norwich University under an Army Reserve Program prior to active duty, serving during WWII with the European Occupation Forces. He was recalled to active duty during the Korean Conflict, assigned to the Panama Canal Zone. Upon returning to the States he attended the University of New Hampshire for one year. He married Pauline (Polly) Lewis 1952. He was employed at Bryant Grinder Corporation for 33 years, retiring in 1986. Arthur and Polly resided in Claremont for 40 years. They moved to Charlestown in 1998.

Arthur took an active role in the Boys Scouts of America Troop 38, serving first as Pack Master of the Cub Scouts and later as Troop Leader. As a member of the Fr. Cote Council of the Knights of Columbus, Arthur gained Lifetime membership of the 4th degree, also serving one term as Grand Knight. A profound lover of the outdoors, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, canoeing, camping, and woodworking.

Arthur and Pauline purchased a winter home in Spanish Lakes Golf Village, Port St. Lucie, FL.  While there, Arthur became active in the sport and social activities offered by the park. He served as president of the tennis club for one term and as treasurer for the Home Owners Association of Golf Village.

Arthur is survived by his wife of 53 years Pauline Lewis St. Martin, two sons; David and his wife Gail of Evans Ga., and James St. Martin and his wife Joyce of Claremont; his daughter-in-law Laura St. Martin of Charlestown; two sisters, Antoinette Jardin and Theresa Neal both of Winter Springs Fl.; two sisters-in-law, Zora St. Martin and June Gates; seven grandchildren, Erin (St. Martin) Coles, Melissa, Katherine, James (Jamie),  Elizabeth, Ethan, and Jonathan St. Martin; one great grandchild, Hannah Coles; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, Ernest and Elsie St. Martin, his identical twin brother, Alfred St. Martin, and his beloved son, Peter St. Martin. 

Visiting hours will be 6 to 8 PM Friday, October 7, 2005 at Charlestown Memorial Chapel, Main St. Charlestown, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by Fr. Michael Gendron will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday October 8 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Main St, Charlestown, NH

Private burial service will be at a later date.
