Brian D. Allison, 78, died Thursday afternoon, April 27, 2006 at Salem Hospital in Salem, MA. Brian was born in Bebington, England on August 17, 1927 the son of David and Dorothy (Kennedy) Allison. Brian retired in 2005 after owning commercial property on Washington Street in Claremont for over 40 years. Prior to converting it to commercial property, Brian owned and operated an automotive business. Brian enjoyed puttering around the property and had a knack for fixing anything and everything. Brian was a veteran of the British Army Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers. He served in France, Greece, Egypt and Palestine during WWII. He left the service in 1949 and opened a motorcycle shop in England. In January 1964, Brian immigrated to the United States. He arrived in New York and moved to Claremont in September 1964 with his brother, Peter, and then sister-in-law, Maureen. Brian lived in Claremont and the family also enjoyed a cottage on Lake Sunapee for many years. Brian relocated to the Sunrise Assisted Living facility in Lynnfield, MA last December to be closer to his niece, Samantha Allison of Boston, MA, and her mother, Maureen Allen of Derry, NH. He enjoyed spending time with family, especially his great nephew, Quinn, who was born last July. Quinn brought great joy to Brian in the past few months. Brian was pre-deceased by his sister, Heather Lewin, who died in 2004. The surviving family includes his brother Peter Allison of Florida, his brother Russell Allison of England, his sister Yvonne Wilcox of California, his sister Kay French of New Zealand, and his sister Joyce Young of England, 12 nieces and nephews, and 5 great nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street, Claremont, NH on Sunday, April 30th at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in his memory to Vermont Public TV, 204 Ethan Allen Avenue, Colchester, VT 05446-3129. |
