Burton R. Snelling, 86, of the Charlestown Elderly Housing,  formerly of
Morway Mobile Home Park, Charlestown, NH, died Saturday morning, April 16,
2005 at the Springfield Hospital.  He was born in Lyndonville Center, VT on
June 2, 1918 the son of Arthur Richard and Charlotte Louisa (Randall)
Snelling.  He attended Lyndon Institute, Lyndon Center, VT.   He lived in
Plainville, CT in the late twenties, moved to North Charlestown in 1934 and
to Spruce Head, ME in 1982 and had resided in Charlestown since 1993. 

Mr. Snelling retired in 1980 from Cone Automatic Machine Co. in Windsor, VT
where he worked as a machinist for twenty-five years.   He was a member of
the Charlestown Historical Society and the Senior Citizens Club, a life
member of the Community Club of Spruce Head, Maine, a former member of the
Masonic Lodge, the Vermont National Guard, Sugar River Grange and the
Bayside Yacht Club, Northport, Maine.

The family includes his wife, Elaine (Webster) Snelling of Charlestown whom
he married on June 16, 1945;  one daughter, Gail M. Gold and husband, Calman
of Londonderry, NH;  two sons, Steven J. Snelling and his wife, Laura of N.
Charlestown and Randall S. Snelling and his wife, Becky of Charlestown;
twelve grandchildren, Amy Lively, Timothy Lyman, Rachel Gold, Derek
Snelling, Joel Snelling, Jesse Snelling, Morgan Snelling, Lacey Stanley,
Priscilla Stanley, Mercedes Stanley, Henry Stanley and Alexa Stanley; one
sister, Beverly Potter of Richmond, VA and nieces, nephews and cousins.  He
was pre-deceased by one sister, Margaret Hoskison.

A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday afternoon, April 19th at Two O'clock
in the North Charlestown United Methodist Church with Rev. Margaret Long,
Pastor officiating. 

Interment will be at a later date in Hope Hill Cemetery in N. Charlestown. 

The family suggest that donations may be made in his memory to the
Charlestown Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 369 or the Charlestown Senior
Citizens Club, P.O.Box 415, both of Charlestown, NH 03603. 

A time of fellowship and sharing will be held at the church hall after the
services.
